Get rid of the mouthwash.

Why?  Your cardiovascular system needs nitric oxide to function properly and there are 2 ways to get nitric oxide. Dr. Nathan Bryan, Ph.D. is a recognized expert and thought leader in nitric oxide science. Listen to the expert.  He eloquently explains in his articles and in his books how as we age, all of us, our nitric oxide levels decrease because a decrease in our endogenous nitric oxide production. 

“Every single chronic disease, whether its heart disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, liver disease, or lung disease, the common denominator in all of them is decreased blood flow, increased inflammation, and nitric oxide is what controls and regulates both of those things.  Nitric oxide decreases inflammation and increases blood flow.”

This is where it gets interesting. 

There are 2 ways to get nitric oxide where it is needed at your cardiovascular system:

1) Endogenous Nitric Oxide:  you make it in the walls of blood vessels where it is most needed, and

2) Exogenous Nitric Oxide:  you consume it - actually you eat nitrates and your body converts nitrate to nitrite and and then nitrite to nitric oxide which is absorbed in your GI system and used by your cardiovascular system, which in turn supports all of your systems.

Back to the tip. If you are using mouthwash, you have to stop. Mouthwash is bad news. Mouthwash kills the normal bacteria in your saliva that you need to start the conversion of the nitrates you eat into the nitric oxide your cardiovascular system needs to survive. People who use mouthwash have higher blood pressure than those who don’t and it puts them at an increased risk for heart attack and stroke. Also, if you use mouthwash and exercise, you lose the cardiovascular benefits of exercise. “Exercise stimulates nitric oxide production and that’s why exercise is medicine.”

Exercise regularly and get rid of the mouthwash to stimulate nitric oxide production.
